Wellness in Water
Most young girls dream of being a ballerina, and we all swirl, tiptoe and spin around on our imaginary stage. In reality, I was like a baby hippopotamus plodding and stomping on reality stage.
I found my grace, strength and expression in water where I felt elegant and agile. As a youngster, I was trained by a Mark Spits lookalike who inspired me to excel in competitive swimming.
Water has always held my fascination as it’ll flow into any shape and fill it. It’s the driving force of nature, and like life, it must not be wasted. During my explorations to cope with my own stress, I attended a marathon Hemi-Sync Meditation weekend and during a guided meditation with dolphins I had the most vivid experience: I was swimming with dolphins and in the depths of the immense blue ocean I encountered my father who had recently passed. It was such a profound experience it led me to want to swim with dolphins.
I travelled all over and was captivated by dolphins (hence the logo and part of what I teach during my retreats V.I.D.A. – Vibrate in Dolphin Awareness), yet realising the difficulties of swimming with dolphins for healing, I continued exploring and found Watsu and Ai Chi, and trained in both fields with Harold Dull and Jun Konno respectively.
Watsu is a form of aquatic bodywork used for deep relaxation and passive aquatic therapy based on the principals of a Shiatsu massage. Ai Chi is like a meditation in motion, practiced in warm water, it’s an activity that has a myriad of benefits on the body and mind. Working in water facilitates skilful ways of living in the present moment as you feel the warm water caress your skin as your mind becomes calm.
When I’m in water I’m relaxed.
In Spain, there is a long tradition of Roman Baths, Moorish Hamams and modern luxurious Spas, all of which are woven into the tapestry of my wellness journeys. “
